The Pelagos Sanctuary for Mediterranean Marine Mammals is an area of 87.500 km² that extends between the French, Monegasque and Italian territories. This stretch of sea has been classified as a Specially Protected Area of Interest.
It was established in Italy in 1991 by the Ministry of the Environment and became an international marine protected area in 1999.
